If you’ve been a fan of Steam but not as big a fan of being locked into the service then this might be for you.
Good Old Games (GOG.com) have just announced that their GOG Galaxy client has entered the beta stage and is now available for download.
For those already familiar with their web based service, they will feel right at home as the interface on first glance is very similar. That’s when the additional perks of the client kick in with support for online multiplayer of select titles (potentially with Steam gamers in the future too) as well as auto updating of games, friends lists and achievements.
So yes, it’s basically like Steam for DRM free games but unlike Valve’s client this is totally a value added feature; you can use it if you want to or just stick with downloading games the old way. And from what I’ve seen so far, I really like it.
You can join the beta from here.
