Xbox One Update Preview – Changes to backward compatibility require some games be reinstalled

An update to the Xbox One Update Preview has just come through the channel that includes a notice about changes to the recently introduced backward compatibility feature. Though no details were given, it was recommended that a select number of games in the preview be reinstalled else they may become unplayable.

The games impacted are:

  • Viva Piñata
  • Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise
  • Perfect Dark
  • Perfect Dark Zero
  • Kameo: Elements of Power
  • Jetpac Refuelled
  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Banjo-Tooie

These games are also part of the upcoming Rare Replay compilation so I’m making the assumption that it’s either:

  1. Improvements in emulation due to having a team building a title like this, or
  2. Tweaks to allow both a BC and a Rare Replay version of the same game to coexist.

Hopefully we will also see a few more games appear here soon as it seems like Xbox gamers are pretty keen to find out what else works.
