Nine million players try Star Wars: Battlefront Beta, more modes announced for game

Looks like the online beta test for Star Wars: Battlefront was a success for EA and DICE with over nine million players across all three platforms giving it a run. With the hype generated over the months and the polished presentation I don’t think it was ever going to be any other way… no way would they let a Battlefield 4 fiasco happen again. The original post from the game’s website can be found here.

On top of that, additional multiplayer modes were announced for the final game. “Hero Hunt” starts one player off as a hero or villain character such as Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader and tasks sever others with trying to take them down. Whoever makes the killing blow will then take over the part and process repeats. The player who remains in that role the longest wins. “Cargo” is a twist on capture the flag where each team tries to take their opponents allotment (each start with 5 items each) to add to their own. Whoever has the most when the game ends is the winner. Finally, there’s “Droid Run” which is a capture and hold mode where players are chasing after three GNK “Gonk” Droids who are wandering around the map doing their own thing.

Also announced was a season pass for the game which will include four DLC packs (with two weeks of early access) and a “shoot first” emote. No other details have been revealed and there’s no incentive (yet) to jump into a purchase without knowing what will be coming… even if it is Star Wars.

Star Wars: Battlefront ships on November 17.
