inXile entertainment made it three in a row on the weekend as their latest Kickstarter for a new game in The Bard’s Tale series was successfully funded. With a goal of $1.25 million set, the campaign comfortably reached over $1.5 million by the end.
With inXile chipping in a similar amount to match the pledges this game, like Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera before it, will have a healthy budget behind it as development begins.
A nice bonus for all pledges involving a copy of the game is having the prior three titles updated to run on modern systems. The same happened with Wasteland 2 providing a copy of the original game and it’s a cool gesture for the benefit of fans.
Though not the first game developer on Kickstarter, Brian Fargo and crew should be given kudos for successfully bringing three high profile titles through the crowd funding model. It’s not always going to succeed but three in a row is pretty good start for anyone.
The Bard’s Tale IV is scheduled to arrive on PC in October 2017. Torment: Tides of Numenera will be in Alpha and Beta testing this year. Wasteland 2 is out now.
