I thought it would be good to start doing a highlight piece on games released the following week. Next week has some good titles out (full list below) and here is what I would consider some highlights for next week:
25th August
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Xbox One)
The Xbox 360 swansong series, Gears of War, gets a huge makeover for the Xbox One and will run at 1080p, 60fps (in multiplayer at least). Five missing single player levels plus all of the original DLC (including the PC maps) will make it into this release. I believe with pre-ordering this game you also get all of the original 360 versions of Gears of War (1, 2, 3 and Judgement) backward compatible on the Xbox One as well. On top of that you get access to the Gears of War 4 beta out next year.
Until Dawn (PS4)
This title will be very interesting indeed. Originally slated as a PS3 Move title this game moved onto the PS4 hardware and is being released next week. You control a group of eight teenagers trying to survive the night out in a cabin in the woods. Decisions you make will determine which of the teenagers survive and provide a very creepy and disturbing horror story. If the gameplay holds up and there is some replay then this could be an exclusive title the PS4 has been waiting for.
Dishonored: Definitive Edition (Xbox One, PS4)
It seems to be the trend of developers these days. Yet another “definitive edition” is out next week and this brilliant 360 / PS3 game has been upgraded for the current generation of consoles. I don’t know if there is enough new content to justify buying this again but if you have never played Dishonored on the previous gen, do yourself a favour and definitely grab this on the Xbox One / PS4. It is first person action game set in a steam punk Victorian era and it demands playing.
Madden NFL 16 (Xbox One, PS4)
Another year, another EA Sports title. I have to be honest, I’ve hardly touched the Madden series of games but I am sure it has a lot of fans. The latest iteration of the series that has been running 20+ years is out next week. If you have EA Access on the Xbox One you can play it right now via a limited timed trial in fact.
