This is pretty exciting news but an upgraded version of the PS4 console is definitely coming out later this year to coincide with the Playstation VR.
Original reports over at www.giantbomb.com report that the Playstation 4, codename NEO will be quite a bit more powerful than the current generation PS4.
Here are the specifications and comparison to the original PS4:
Original PS4 CPU – 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6GHz
NEO CPU – 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1GHz
Original PS4 GPU – AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800MHz
NEO GPU – Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911MHz
Original PS4 Memory – 8GB GDDR5, 176GB/s
NEO Memory – 8GB GDDR5, 218GB/s
If these leaked documents are to be 100% accurate Microsoft will have to be thinking of releasing a pretty beefed up console to upgrade the Xbox One. The new NEO GPU can apparently produce 2.3 teraflops alone. When you compare the current Xbox One runs at 1.3 teraflops for its GPU it starts to give you an idea of just how much power the new PS4 will have, if the rumours are true.

It’s definitely going to be an interesting time ahead in 2016. 🙂
