It has been 10 days since Night Owl and I plugged in our new Xboxes. In that time I’ve had plenty of opportunity to play some games and get a feel for what ones are definitely highlights. Here are some games you should definitely look at on the X (in no particular order):
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus – Wow – this game looks pretty damn amazing and plays very well (helped by having 60fps). Add the disturbing but fantastic story and this makes the sequel to the surprise hit unmissable. This is single player gaming at its finest.

Amongst all of Wolfentein II’s great action is a heartfelt story.
Elite Dangerous – If you like ED you’ll love the 4K update on the X. This is looking much closer to the PC counterpart now and makes playing ED an absolute joy.

Ran pretty good on the Xbox One S. Runs brilliantly on the X.
Assassin’s Creed Origins – Amazing in 4K. I have only spent a few hours in this game so far but Ubisoft have definitely headed in the right direction by giving us a two year break from the last Assassin’s Creed. Looks gorgeous on the X.

Tweak the HDR settings right for your TV and combine it with 4K. Glorious. Add Dolby Atmos sound support too and this is one game to showcase on the X.
Forza Motorsport 7 – Another amazing game and one to showcase native 4K at 60fps. Just incredible.

Definitely jaw dropping in 4K / HDR.
Call of Duty: WW2 – When the landing on Normandy opens you realise you are in for a visual treat. Despite the odd quicktime event that feels very out of place so far my play on the campaign is very encouraging. This is bringing back COD in a serious way. Now, if they can just sort the server hosting issues and move us away from peer to peer multiplayer.

I didn’t take this screenshot but it shows the quality of the game. Another showcase for running in 4K / HDR.
DOOM – The first game to run on the ID Tech 6.0 engine it looks absolutely stunning on the Xbox One X. Runs at 60fps too.

I’m glad I never got around to finishing this because now I can in 4K.
Star Wars Battlefront II – Looks pretty damn amazing and has incredible audio to boot. EA have deservedly copped a lot of flack for the “pay to win” type scenario within the game just prior to the standard release. Following the huge gamer backlash they have disabled all real currency purchasing of the loot crates (good move). I’m hoping that might settle things down again because the game is really good fun and the presentation is top notch.
Amazingly Star Wars Battlefront II runs at 4K (2160p) at times in a dynamic resolution mode on the X. This is pretty incredible since the original Star Wars Battlefront only ran at 720p. The PS4 Pro version by comparison can only manage 1440p as its maximum resolution.

I haven’t finished the single player campaign yet but from what I’ve played so far it suits the Star Wars universe well.
Skyrim, Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have also been upgraded to the 4K treatment. If you haven’t already played these great RPGs and have picked up an Xbox One X you simply have no excuse now.
One thing is certain. The X is now the console to go to for 3rd party and 1st party games. All reports and thorough analysis confirm this. There are also already 162 games announced (or out already) that are Xbox One X enhanced. The PS4 Pro is no longer the big kid on the block. For a gamer like myself who has always preferred the Xbox console, it is a really good time for gaming.
I should point out that somehow I missed Gears of War 4. This game is an absolute highlight as well.

Titanfall 2 is also a good shout, especially when it was overlooked by many last year

How great is Titanfall 2 now? After all the updates Respawn have made since launch it is now an incredibly fun game with something for all shooter fans. And when they brought back Frontier Defence I was VERY happy to jump into it again. 🙂

It still plays really well, while visually it is looking more clean and crisp. Some of the maps are more eye popping now too! I personally like the “mixtape playlist” feature, so I just play the match types I like. Having said that, I do wish they brought back pilot vs pilot and Mark for death. Other than that, it is awesome!

I’ve had a quick look at Titanfall 2 as well and completely agree. Great on the X. I also love that Frontier Defense finally made a return to the game.

I really can’t wait for the next Forza Horizon to be released on the Xbox One X. Getting an Xbox One X really soon. Have you tried playing Fifa on the X? It seems ot be amazing!

I haven’t tried FIFA on the Xbox One X yet. Will do so when FIFA 18 comes out on EA Access. Keep an eye out for the Forza Horizon 3 patch that should hit the X sometime this month. There is also a rumour floating about that Forza Horizon 4 will be set in Tokyo, Japan.
On another note – The Xbox One X is a great console.
