The “new” Halo MCC is here!

It looks like everything is once again coming up Halo with the arrival of the new and improved version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. For players who already own it you should soon be downloading the hefty 70+Gb update to your consoles. If you’ve subscribed to Game Pass you’ll have access to it too from the start of September.

It’s an epic change to the title with developer 343 Industries looking to right the wrongs from the original launch which sharply divided the player base. Issues with the multiplayer made it hard for many to want to return to the game beyond the campaigns which was a tragedy as that was a key pillar of what made Halo great. But now it’s all changed and it’s almost like we’re now FINALLY seeing Halo MCC as it was originally intended.

The full details of the update can be found at Halo Waypoint and I’ll post the patch notes below but the main gist of this release is that multiplayer has been rebuilt (including LAN support), you can select what parts of the game to install (it’s a big game to install all at once), the UI has been rebuilt and looks much less cluttered and on top of that it all supports 4K and HDR while still running at 60fps.

With Halo MCC arriving on Game Pass this might be one of the biggest turnarounds yet for a game this generation if these changes make a difference and the player base returns. It’s going to take some time but kudos to 343i in committing to finally giving players the Halo collection that they deserved. I do know that I’ll be making some time again to play through the campaigns. 🙂
