Blood, bombs and rogues round out February 2019’s Xbox Games with Gold

The next month’s Xbox Games with Gold was announced by Major Nelson and it brings yet another original Xbox game into the mix too. The games incoming are:

  • Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (Feb 1-28, Xbox One)
  • Super Bomberman R (Feb 16-Mar 15, Xbox One)
  • Assassin’s Creed Rogue (Feb 1-15, Xbox 360)
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (Feb 16-28, Xbox)

All games are backward compatible on Xbox One.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is a retro styled side project to the (hopefully) soon to be released Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Both are inspired by their creator’s past work on Castlevania so if that style of game is for you then this will be an easy choice.

Fans of classic Bomberman should be happy with Super Bomberman R as it looks like it brings a lot of nostalgia in the package and tries not to differ to much from the original games. The last time I played a Bomberman game regularly was more than twenty years ago and involved crowding around a friend’s PC so I probably have some catching up to do.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue is the original 360 version and not the recent remaster however that shouldn’t be much of a deterrent as the game came out during the transition between Xbox 360 to One so it’s likely to have been making the most of that system. It’s also the sixth game in the franchise to appear on Games with Gold.

Another LucasArts game appears from their back catalogue in the form of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. It continues from the previous idTech powered Jedi Outcast but replaces regular series protagonist Kyle Katarn with a new character that the player has some control in customizing. I wonder if we’ll continue to see more of LucasArts’ Xbox games show up over the next few months.

I’ve not played any of these so am curious to see how they all are. Does anyone have thoughts on which games are the pick of the bunch? Feel free to comment below. 🙂
