Sci-Fi and Ghosts hitting April 2019’s Xbox Games with Gold

The latest announcement via Major Nelson of April’s Xbox Games with Gold title brings a mix of adventures and shooters with a strong focus on future and fantastical technologies. The upcoming games are:

  • Technomancer (Xbox One), April 1-30
  • Outcast: Second Contact (Xbox One), April 16 to May 15
  • Star Wars Battlefront II (Xbox BC), April 1 to 15
  • Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (Xbox 360 BC), April 16 to 30

Technomancer is an action RPG set on Mars that I’ve heard of but not yet checked out in any detail. It’s nice seeing the number of similar games in the genre that have been included as part of the GwG program – hopefully a sign of popularity. Outcast: Second Contact is an intriguing game in that it is a modern remake by the same developers of their 1999 game that was renowned at the time for it’s incredible visuals.

I’m really surprised to see 2005’s Star Wars Battlefront II here as a new mode was just rolled out for EA’s 2017 version of the game that pays a slight resemblance to the Space Assault mode that’s within this game. Though online play may not be possible anymore with the backward compatible game (LAN maybe) the experience against bots might still be enough for people to criticize the new version.

Lastly there’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (GRAW2) which is a tactical shooter from the early Xbox 360 years. It’s been a long time since I’ve checked these games out but from what I remember there was a decent campaign in there and some challenging multiplayer modes too.

What are your thoughts on the games? Please feel free to comment below.
