In the last few hours, the Kickstarter for Thimbleweed Park, the new retro styled point and click adventure from Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, not only achieved its funding goal but also reached all of its stretch goals.
Their intent with the game is to produce something that feels like a successor to Maniac Mansion; their classic LucasArts (then Lucasfilm Games) adventure that reinvented the way that these games could be designed.
The art style definitely fits the period as from the trailer and screenshots it looks like the game almost fit in nicely between Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders. It’s a neat touch that will help reinforce that retro vibe.
The game will be released for PC, Mac, Linux as well as iOS and Android starting from June 2016.
Maniac Mansion was so much fun! The replay value wasn’t all that high though.

I think it was a case of you willing to and complete the game with a different combination of the characters to see how you would go each time. As each character had their own unique attributes, some puzzles could be solved in different ways. Even now you don’t see many adventure games try to deal with multiple characters.
I remember game guides of the time providing multiple solutions to try and help … 🙂
