Red Dead Redemption available on Xbox One via Backward Compatiblity [UPDATED]

[UPDATE 4] Response by Xbox’s Major Nelson on reddit: “Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles. Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available. We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon.” – Night Owl

[UPDATE 3] Polygon reports that MS has found a way to stop the early downloaders from playing – more details to follow. – Night Owl

[UPDATE 2] Some digital owners are reporting success however please note the methods to get the game may not be looked on favourably by MS (ie. circumventing their system) so there could be potential for a response from them. So until it becomes official, try at your own risk. – Night Owl

[UPDATE] I tried using my RDR disc to install the game and my Xbox One didn’t recognise the disc. If it is available it may not be for everyone just yet. It’s definitely visible from Grocs feed though… just as part of an unknown “bundle”. Maybe a way to block purchases? – Night Owl

It is being reported that Red Dead Redemption is now available on backward compatibility for Xbox One. It isn’t showing up in the games list yet, nor searchable but some Xbox Live users have reported it working.

Indeed I found a gamer who had downloaded it and I am now following the game. If you want a download link (particularly if you have the digital version) just search on my name “Grocs” and look under the games I am following.  It should take you to a download link. Some people have reported the disc version works too but I have yet to confirm.

I can’t wait to pick this up digitally and play it again. One of my all time favourite games.
