It looks like EA are finally filling in one the biggest gaps in their Star Wars portfolio and will let players fly X-Wings and TIE Fighters their own dedicated game. Coming to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Star Wars Squadrons will have both a campaign as well as a multiplayer component that supports up to 5v5 combat. It’ll even be cross-play too. It’s too early to judge what we’re going to get until some gameplay footage shows (the trailer didn’t click with me) but the game has some pretty big shoes to fill. TIE Fighter is regarded as one of the greatest PC games ever made and the Rogue Squadron series really did well on Nintendo’s consoles. It’s going to be very hard for me to not compare it to these so I’m hoping EA really gives us something that can be looked on favourably. We’ll find out later this year.
While I agree the trailer was pretty ho hum I’m cautiously optimistic this could be good.
It is an interesting price point too ($40 USD and $60 AUD), so I wonder if that is a gesture of good faith (based on the Battlefront 2 debacle a few years back) or the game isn’t being touted as a AAA game?
I’ve just read that the game will have VR support. That improves my feelings on this game substantially. Definitely getting it now. 🙂
