As reported on Xbox Wire, August 2020’s Games with Gold have been announced and for the first time in ages that I can remember us not seeing ANY Xbox 360 games as part of the release as those spots have been filled with original Xbox titles.

The games in question are:

• Portal Knights (Xbox One, Aug 1-31)
• Override: Mech City Brawl (Xbox One, Aug 16-Sep 15)
• MX Unleashed (Xbox BC, Aug 1-15)
• Red Faction II (Xbox BC, Aug 16-31)

I suppose I’m curious about Red Faction II purely because of the history of the franchise. The “Geo-Mod” technology was meant to be a game changer in terms of environment destruction but I don’t think it ever did take off in the way it was intended. Still, it has a legacy that you can see in games such as Battlefield and even Minecraft and sequel Red Faction: Guerrilla was a lot of fun at the time of its release.

Still… it’s a much quieter month following Xbox’s games announcements which is unexpected as I thought we might see some big surprises to increase momentum leading up to the new console. Having these announced at the last moment doesn’t help a lot on that front.
