It’s been a long time coming but from tomorrow PC players will finally be able stretch their space legs in Elite Dangerous when the Odyssey expansion officially goes live. Allowing players to finally step out of their ships to walk through spaceports, outposts and planets is major change to the game and it’ll be interesting to see what it brings to the overall experience. Console players will have to wait a few more months before they get to play too but I hope for them the wait will be worth it. I’m definitely going to check it out soon with my PC character and see what it’s like before returning to my Xbox one where most of my play has been spent.

It’ll be interesting to see what the reaction is now that this feature brings the game more in line with titles such as Star Citizen and No Man’s Sky. All these games had their own spin on the space sim formula but their ways of attacking the problem had been from vastly different angles which are converging now that they’ve been in the market (in some form) for a few years. In the case of Elite Dangerous I may finally have to start dressing up my character so they look good in my next round of inevitable screenshots…
