Guns, trucks and vikings in April 2021’s Xbox Games with Gold

March is almost done and the latest batch of games for Xbox’s Games with Gold program have been announced. Details from Xbox Wire can be found here. But in short the games are:

  • Vikings: Wolves of Midgard (Apr 1-30, Xbox)
  • Dark Void (Apr 1-15, Xbox 360 BC)
  • Truck Racing Championship (Apr 16-May 15, Xbox)
  • Hard Corps: Uprising (Apr 16-30, Xbox 360 BC)

A lot of new games for me here this month! Vikings: Wolves of Midgard has got a bit of an action RPG vibe to it which could be good for Diablo fans whileTruck Racing Championship is a switch for a racing category that usually gets added as an afterthought in other games. Hard Corps: Uprising is a Contra spin-off that I remember playing the demo of long ago but after the previous month included Metal Slug 3 I think this may be an appealing choice for anyone who enjoyed that game. I remember Dark Void was going to be a big deal at the time – even a Brad Pitt movie (!) – but reaction to it after launch killed those plans so there is an element of curiosity about how it turned out.

These may not be considered as high profile as some past releases in the program but I a lot of gamers are still distracted by the pile of Bethesda games that recently landed in Game Pass and a lot of discussion is still revolving around that. Worth noting too that with the recent announcement of the PS3 marketplace shutting down later in the year Xbox may be only place to purchase and play games from that era, if they had 360 versions and are backward compatible. Could be interesting to see if that spurs the BC team onto delivering more 360 games into the service!
