I’ve been a regular attendee of PAX Australia since it first arrived here in occasionally sunny Melbourne back in 2013 (!) but the last two years have not been kind to us. Last year’s event was cancelled and replaced with an online event due to the continuing pandemic and unfortunately history has repeated itself with the show organisers finally confirming what we had all long suspected.
It’s a real shame for me – this was going to be the first time my family was going to come along. My son was going to finally see all those Fortnite streamers he used to copy by buying unnecessary character skins. I was hoping to convince him old games were cool by spending time in the classic gaming area… one of my favourite places on the show floor. Finally my wife was going buy a lot of candy treats from one of the regular vendors which was something of a tradition of mine but this time she could pick and choose them herself. So yeah… we had some plans!
But it is what it is right now. Until vaccination numbers take a giant leap forward and things get better it might be a while longer before PAX is back. I’d like to think it’ll be next year but it’s really hard to tell right now – the event relies on a lot of travelers from across the country and overseas so lockdowns don’t help at all. I’ll have to figure out what to do too as I think I take more pictures at PAX than a other time of the year – might be a good time to dig out my old computers again and try to relive the classic gaming experience in the safety of my house. 😉
