Video: TLNS versus the Atari 130XE

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve posted about my Atari 8bit collection as well as some of the games and accessories that I still have keeping them all company. Writing about it only goes so far so I thought it would be fun to try and show some of them in action. 🙂

It goes for just under 30 minutes as I wanted to run through parts of a few games for longer to give a fair representation of what was involved in playing them. Showing a single stage from a game like Beach-Head doesn’t really do it justice but if you see all the steps to getting there it begins to make a lot more sense.

Games on show in the video are:

  • Ballblazer @ 0:55
  • Pitstop @ 04:08
  • Beach-Head @ 05:25
  • International Karate @ 10:52
  • Encounter @ 11:57
  • Koronis Rift @ 13:18
  • Dropzone @ 16:01
  • Pitfall II: Lost Caverns @ 17:17
  • Star Trek @ 18:26
  • Raid over Moscow @ 20:05
  • Ghostbusters @ 23:36
  • Rescue on Fractalus! @ 25:29

Some of the games may not have been 100% compatible with the XE (Beach-Head & Ghostbusters had some issues) so I’m thinking it’d be worth trying them out on the 800XL and find out if that makes a difference. I would have included video of Alley Cat but was unable to get it to run so if I return to this again I might give the older machine a run. Plus I have a few cartridges to run through as well!

I learned a few lessons doing this and am definitely in awe of those people who can consistently create content… it takes a lot of time! Anyway, please sit back, relax and watch a few old games being played haphazardly by me. 🙂

    • It always annoyed me that the Atari version of Ghostbusters looked and sounded so much more inferior to the C64 version (blue Ghostbuster uniforms!?) but I did play it a lot as a kid! I haven’t yet plugged my SIO2SD into the 800XL yet so you might be right about my concerns about compatibility. 🙂
